Sportsmanship Conference

In September 2017, The Northern Lakes League hosted it's first ever Sportsmanship Conference. This event brought together (48) student athletes from all eight member schools of the NLL (6 from each school). Leadership Toledo developed activities for the participants to discuss a variety of topics related to sportsmanship. Topics discussed that day included:

Who are you and what do you stand for?
What is sportsmanship?
How do personal values and sportsmanship connect to leadership?
Self-Control - What’s stopping us?
Define Sportsmanship in the NLL

From the first NLL Sportsmanship Conference, this original group of NLL student athletes created the first ever NLL definition of Sportsmanship in our League. That definition is:

SPORTSMANSHIP IS UPHOLDING A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT WHERE RESPECT, COMPASSION AND INTEGRITY ARE EXPECTED FROM ALL ATHLETES, COACHES, OFFICIALS AND SPECTATORS

On September 9th, 2021, the NLL held its fourth annual Sportsmanship Conference with (48) student athletes (6 from each member school) participating. This group went through a series of discussions and activities about sportsmanship and once again evaluated the league's definition of sportsmanship. At the end of the day, the group agreed that this definition still aligns with the sportsmanship values of those that were selected to be a part of this conference.

The NLL has partnered with Leadership Toledo (https://leadershiptoledo.org) to lead this day long discussion. BCSN (https://bcsnnation.com) has also graciously financed the entire cost of this annual event. The Northern Lakes League would like to thank both of these groups for collaborating with the NLL to facilitate this unique Sportsmanship Conference.
