The Northern Lakes League (NLL) is seeking NLL Assistant Commissioner / JH Commissioner
The Northern Lakes League (NLL) is seeking a highly organized, motivated, and collaborative individual to serve as the NLL Assistant Commissioner / JH Commissioner. This essential leadership role supports and oversees the expanding junior high athletic programming across the league’s member schools, ensuring consistency, fairness, and high-quality experiences for student-athletes, coaches, and athletic departments. This role will also support the NLL Commissioner and the high school athletic programs.

Position Type: Stipend/Part-Time (Days, Evenings & Travel Required)
Reports To: NLL Commissioner – Richard Browne
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Junior High Commissioner for all NLL junior high schools.
- Assist NLL Commissioner with various duties for all NLL high schools.
- Attend and oversee JH Athletic Director meetings.
- Coordinate all JH league schedules and athletic activities in collaboration with junior high athletic directors (ADs).
- Support the development and updating of league bylaws and handbook materials with JH ADs.
- Address concerns regarding officials assigned to league contests (e.g., professionalism, appearance, and conduct).
- Annually review and evaluate JH officials; recommend assignments and pay rates to ADs and distribute the annual officials’ fee list.
- Confirm league championship host schools, dates, and times.
- Manage ordering and distribution of all JH athletic awards and trophies; ensure timely delivery and quality control.
- Partner with the NLL Commissioner to manage all public relations and media for JH events.
- Maintain records of seasonal results and league championships across all junior high sports.
- Attend and record minutes for NLL JH principals’ and athletic directors’ meetings; share minutes with appropriate stakeholders.
- Regularly attend NLL high school athletic directors’ and principals’ meetings (as needed) to represent JH athletics.
- Assist with the coverage of both junior high and high school athletic events.
- Aim to attend at least one football, one boys’ basketball, and one girls’ basketball game per JH school each season, plus other key events and championships.
- Act as the final authority for resolving scheduling conflicts at the JH level.
- Conduct investigations and reports related to incidents at JH athletic contests.
- Help maintain the JH league website and ensure the accuracy and accessibility of league information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the NLL Commissioner.
Qualifications:
- Experience in athletic administration, education, or sports leadership preferred.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and manage complex logistics.
- Working knowledge of junior high athletics and OHSAA policies (preferred).
- Willingness to travel within the league for events and meetings.
- Technologically proficient and comfortable maintaining digital records and content.
